Health and safety induction - contractor

Health and safety induction - contractor

When contractors arrive on site, you should complete a formal induction for their staff. Use our document to identify the points you need to cover.

Clueless

Although you’re bound to have spent time informing contractors about your site rules and arrangements for working on your premises, it’s unlikely that these messages will have filtered through to their staff. Therefore, to ensure that anyone working on your premises is aware of your health and safety, fire, security rules, etc. use our Health and Safety Induction - Contractor document.

not everyone

Complete this process for anyone working on your site unsupervised; for example, contractors carrying out the following tasks/roles: construction/refurbishment workers, maintenance engineers, window cleaners, security staff, etc.

When setting up a contract with a company that’s not worked on your site previously, tell them that all staff must attend an induction before starting work. Inform them that anyone found working who hasn’t been inducted will be thrown off site.

What’s covered?

There are eight sections, including: (1) “First aid and accidents”; (2) “Fire safety”; (3) “Hazard and risk”; (4) “Housekeeping and waste”; (5) “Security”; (6) “Plant and equipment”; (7) “Getting around”; and (8) “Play your part”.”

Tick them off

Run through all of the questions in the document. When you get to the end of each part, check that the attendees understand what’s required of them, then ask them to tick the appropriate box on the form to confirm this is the case. You should also ask the individual to sign the document.
