Agenda for health and safety meetings

Agenda for health and safety meetings

In order to maximise the benefit from any meeting, it’s important to ensure that the right topics are discussed; health and safety is no exception. So why not use our agenda to help you stay on track?

Health and safety consultation

It’s a requirement of the Health and Safety (Consultation with Employees) Regulations 1996, that non-unionised businesses consult with employees on matters affecting their health and safety. Irrespective of whether you have a dedicated health and safety meeting or are content to add it on to an existing management meeting, an Agenda for Health and Safety Meetings may be useful to help you ensure that only the right topics are discussed.

Agenda content

Pertinent issues to be discussed at health and safety meetings can be summarised under six broad headings. These are health and safety policy changes, new legislation, new work processes, dealing with a forthcoming inspection, training needs and accidents and claims. With the latter, it’s advised that you stick to identifying any accident trends and hotspots rather than getting bogged down with discussing trivial accidents. Finally, under “any other business” (which is effectively a seventh heading), we’ve made the point that you need to watch out for staff wishing to use this as an opportunity to raise trivial issues, as this undermines the purpose of the meeting.
