Visitor safety checklist

Visitor safety checklist

As you have legal responsibilities for the safety of visitors as well as staff, you need to ensure that they are safe in using your premises. We’ve designed a visitor safety checklist to help you.

Visitor safety

Irrespective of whether the general public has access to your workplace, you’re likely to have visitors at fairly regular intervals. This could be the photocopier repair man or a plumber to fix a leak. Alternatively, it could be existing and potential clients or suppliers. Irrespective of who these visitors are, you need to take steps to ensure that they will be safe when visiting your premises. For this reason, you may wish to use a Visitor Safety Checklist.

Using the checklist

The checklist combines both safety and fire safety issues, such as keeping tabs on visitors whilst they’re on your premises, in the event of a fire. It also prompts you to see whether they’re at risk from any of your activities, such as trip hazards and restricted entry to certain hazardous areas. Whilst the checklist only needs to be used periodically, it includes areas which you may not have perceived as being a potential risk, e.g. obstructions in your corridors which blind or physically disabled people may have problems with.
