Needlestick injury procedure

Needlestick injury procedure

Needlestick or sharps injuries are those caused by sharp medical instruments such as needles, scalpels and syringes. If your staff are at risk of such injuries, use our procedure.

Who should use it?

This Needlestick Injury Procedure is for use by those in non-healthcare situations where exposure to sharps may occur during cleaning, maintenance and waste management activities. It includes first aid procedures and action to take after the incident.

Note. You must act to prevent injuries so far as reasonably practicable. This procedure is designed as a back up should anything go wrong.
