Furlough scheme extension

Furlough scheme to be phased out at the end of October. Employers will be required to start contributing towards furlough pay.

First it was due to end on May 31, then June 30 and now it's been extended until October 31.

The scheme will stay in its current form until July 31, i.e. employees being paid 80% of salary up to a monthly cap of £2,500. The claim can include the NI paid and the minimum auto-enrolment pension contribution.

From August 1 furloughed workers will be able to return to work part-time with employers being asked to pay a percentage towards the salaries of furloughed staff. As soon as the details have been published, we'll share them with you but until then, remember that where we've previously stated the scheme was due to end on May 31 or June 30, it's now October 31 (unless it's pushed back again!).
